ToggleAreca Nut Price Per Kilogram: 2021 to 2025
Based on data from various regions in Indonesia, it is clear that the areca nut price per kilogram at farmgate level is strongly influenced by international market conditions.
In mid-2021, Bangka Belitung recorded a dried areca nut price at cooperative level of Rp15,000 per kilogram. In the same year, Aceh (Abdya) had a price range of Rp7,000 to Rp13,000 per kilogram.
Entering early 2022, Riau recorded Rp14,200 per kilogram, showing a positive trend at the time in line with high world export prices.
But the situation changed at the end of 2022. Papua recorded the highest price in the range of Rp28,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram, while in Riau prices began to soften.
In February 2023, the dried areca nut price in Riau fell to Rp9,717 per kilogram, then slumped again to Rp5,760 per kilogram in September 2023. Early 2024 became the lowest period of the past four years in this region, with prices at just Rp4,840 per kilogram.
2025 showed areca nut price movement in the range of Rp5,500 to Rp29,000 per kilogram across regions of Indonesia.
Aceh saw a significant increase in February 2025, when the price of dried whole areca nut reached Rp9,000 per kilogram.
Meanwhile Jambi faced a sharp decline in May 2025: from Rp29,000 per kilogram to Rp17,000 per kilogram.
In Riau, prices edged slightly up to Rp5,500 per kilogram in August 2025, but remained far below their peak in early 2022.
This price path also tracks export market conditions. Indonesia once enjoyed an average export price of US$1,650 per tonne in 2021, but the figure was corrected to US$902 per tonne in 2023 and US$621 per tonne in 2024.
Factors such as protectionist policy in importing countries, especially India in the context of geopolitical dynamics with Myanmar, also shaped this volatility.
