Fresh Young Areca Nut Grade B: Export Tolerance Specifications

Fresh Young Areca Nut Grade B: Export Tolerance Specifications

Agro Bumi Sumatera – Areca nut is a commodity much sought after in international markets, and PT. Agro Bumi Sumatera is a company that exports areca nut from Indonesia to global markets.

To keep supply stable and quality protected, we open ourselves to working with local areca nut farmers able to produce young areca nut and orange areca nut at the grading levels we have set.

You can see the areca nut grading levels we have set here: Orange Areca Nut & Fresh Young Areca Nut

This scheme gives farmers and collectors clarity on the standards we require, and helps buyers assess raw material consistency.

This article sets out in more detail the fresh young areca nut grade B specification whose acceptance from farmers we tolerate, for subsequent export to global markets.

At the same time, it serves as a practical guide for upstream partners and a quality reference for buyers.

Fresh Young Areca Nut Grade B Specifications We Can Consider Accepting

Outer skin colour – yellowish green

Yellowish green colour indicates the fruit is at a ripeness stage still suited to fresh requirements.

This colour range allows further sorting without sacrificing stability during shipping.

We assess colour uniformity per lot to ensure a consistent appearance on the buyer side.

Skin texture – slightly rough / beginning to wilt

Texture that is starting to roughen or slightly wilt is still within tolerance.

This condition is generally related to harvest timing and handling in the field, so we encourage the use of ventilated baskets and shading during initial transit.

With those procedures, the fruit surface stays neat and easy to clean at inspection.

Diameter – 3 to 4 cm

A diameter of 3 to 4 cm is considered proportionate for maintaining the weight-to-volume ratio within packaging.

This size makes carton arrangement easier, reduces empty space, and helps logistics cost efficiency.

We carry out random sampling to measure diameter consistency in every lot so buyers receive more uniform sizing.

Moisture – medium

Medium moisture is a freshness indicator that remains safe for medium-distance shipping.

This stability is supported by good air circulation in primary packaging and timely dispatch.

We recommend upstream partners keep the fruit dry on the surface and free of standing water so internal condition does not change quickly.

Aroma – somewhat weak

A somewhat weak aroma remains acceptable provided no indication of rancidity or fermentation appears.

Our organoleptic checks focus on cleanliness, absence of foreign odour, and a fresh impression when the lot is opened.

This parameter helps buyers assess the first impression on receiving the goods.

Damaged / bruised skin – 5% to 15%

The 5% to 15% skin damage tolerance is calculated at nut level.

Light damage generally results from friction during harvest and initial transport.

We carry out re-sorting to separate fruit with severe defects, then rearrange packaging so friction is reduced during the journey.

Fungus / insects – 1 to 2 lightly infected nuts

A light finding on 1 to 2 nuts per lot can still be handled with strict segregation and hygienic cleaning.

We still evaluate the lot as a whole to ensure there is no indication of spread.

We include inspection documentation so buyers gain transparency on field condition.

Selection Process & Quality Tolerance: Flow from Upstream to Downstream

Every supply passes through initial visual inspection, weighing, and random sampling.

Our team compiles a QC record covering key findings, from colour and size through to defect percentage.

Grade B lots that meet tolerance proceed to re-sorting, so unsuitable nuts are separated immediately.

Packaging is then prepared with ventilated cartons and liners that maintain circulation, plus identification labels for traceability.

Post-harvest handling is an important part of protecting Grade B quality.

We recommend harvesting during cooler hours, temporary storage in shade, and prompt dispatch to the consolidation point.

Hygiene practices such as light washing where necessary, surface drying, and workplace sanitation help suppress mould risk.

With an orderly flow, Grade B stays within the quality corridor buyers expect.
